Drawing Joe Lyons from Memory
Out of the three pages of sketches I recently did of Joe, mostly ones from memory rather than reference, this one “felt” the most like what I image Joe to be like. That said, the photo I’ve provided here doesn’t really have the same mood, but visually it was similar to the drawing I ended [...]
Writing, Writing
Working away on my script at the moment, but here is a doodle of Harold Holt and some fish in the meantime.
Another Lucky Find
David spotted Zara’s autobiography in a second hand bookstore while visiting Sydney. He recalled that it was on my reading list for the Enid/Harold project.
From what I have read so far Zara does focus on the pleasant aspects of life, here is an example ” I loved the girls who looked after us in the [...]
Getting More Cartoony
I still don’t know exactly what style I will draw this story in, but simplifying the characters like this helps me to memorize their features so that I can consistently draw them without reference.
The characters above are top row: Harold and Zara Holt. Bottom Row: Enid and Joesph Lyons.
First Digital Drawing
David bought a Samsung Slate tablet the other day. This is the drawing I made on it.
I’m calling this my first digital drawing, but now I think on it I made 100% digital drawings in Microsoft Paint and Dr Halo paint program back in the 90s. This time round was a lot easier!
More Coaster Art
Two images of Enid, two images of Harold. I really enjoyed using colour in these. I still don’t know if I will make the final story art b&w or colour.
The Old Haggis
” The human spirit is a strange, incalculable thing. A man may be at his lowest ebb, his health broken, his career ended; numbness in his soul, and the future seeming desert. Then something within him will stir and lift and he will know himself once more a sentient, breathing part of universal life striving [...]
Visited the Home of Joe and Enid Lyons Today
This photo is from the National Trust website, but I will post some of my photos soon. None of the photos do justice to the colours. Enid really wasn’t afraid of colour apparently.
Also Enid was a big fan of the Better Homes and Garden type magazines. I just came across this great flickr photo set [...]
Enid Lyons talks about Harold Holt
“I expected not to like him, but from the beginning I saw in him qualities that suggested far greater depths of character than appeared on the glossy surface. Of his mental capacity there was ample evidence in this scholastic attainments and in the substance of his speeches. His style as a speaker was not particularly [...]
